Isle of Wight Studio Glass

Isle of Wight Studio Glass

Isle of Wight Studio Glass was founded in 1973 in a beautiful site at St. Lawrence, Isle of Wight by iconic designer and glassmaker, Michael Harris. During 2013 it relocated to a new studio at Arreton Barns where it will continue production of one of the world’s great studio glass products.

The continuation of this tradition of excellence is driven by Timothy Harris – Michael’s eldest son, and nephew of the new owner, Richard Harris. Timothy is recognised as one of Britain’s most innovative and prolific designers and makers of Studio Glass and ranks amongst the best on a world stage.

The move to Arreton marks the beginning of a new creative era for Isle of Wight Studio Glass, but Timothy continues to develop the innovative designs for which he is already world renowned, ranging from simple mementoes of a Studio visit to unique and investable art glass for the true enthusiast and connoisseur.

Many of Timothy’s designs have required ground-breaking techniques, for example the application of 22ct gold and silver to the surface of hot glass. This process was perfected by the studio in 1978 and is probably its most recognisable design feature, and pieces incorporating this flagship technique are avidly collected.

The studio is open daily and has an excellent viewing area where you can watch this very special glass being created by Timothy Harris and his assistants. The retail display area will give you the opportunity to indulge in something of lasting beauty – a treasure of British craftsmanship.
