It’s never easy cancelling an event but the team at Arreton Barns have made the decision to cancel this year's Sweetcorn Fayre in light of current Government guidelines and the unsettled climate.

Jane Gibbs, owner of Arreton Barns “there is so much planning that goes on throughout the year from a dedicated team and the decision to cancel the Sweetcorn Fayre was not an easy one. We thought about ways adjusting the event to make it safe but it was not viable, especially from a health and safety perspective. We must always put the safety of our visitors and staff first.”

This is only the second time in the Sweetcorn Fayre’s history that it has been cancelled. In 2019 during the month of September we saw substantial amounts of rainfall, leaving the fields for onsite parking at Arreton Barns waterlogged and unusable. Over the weekend of the Sweetcorn Fayre the Isle of Wight saw gusts of winds reaching 69 mph, recorded at The Needles, making it unsafe for marquees.

Tony Wake of Beaulieu Respite said “we are saddened to have to cancel this year's Sweetcorn Fayre but the safety of everyone is paramount. The decision was a tough one to make as it’s the charities that ultimately suffer. However, I want to continue to thank Jane and Andrew Gibbs for many years of amazing support for our - and so many more - local charities. We are looking forward to coming back in 2021 bigger and better than before.”

Over the years the Gibbs family has raised over £250,000 for local charities and endeavour to increase this next year with the return of the Sweetcorn Fayre on 25th and 26th September 2021, pop it in your diaries now!
